Party Wall Matters
If you are considering carrying out building work, The Party Wall Etc., Act 1996 is often overlooked. The Party Wall Act 1996 is completely separate from Town and Country Planning and the Building Regulations and this legislation could apply to you. Maybe you have a party wall shared with your neighbour and are planning building work, or indeed, your neighbours may be undertaking building work and you are not sure whether you need party wall advice.
Under The Party Wall Act 1996 you may be required by law to give written notification to your neighbours. If you fail to do so, your neighbour could seek an injunction to stop the building work or bring other legal action.
As party wall surveyors, we can guide you through the legislation and advise you on all party wall matters and whether the Party Wall Act applies to you.
Did you know? This Act can apply to work that is undertaken within 6 metres of a neighbour’s home.
